I received an old notebook from a family member and am looking to use it for streaming videos and watching content without being near the main computer. It runs Windows XP, and I’ve upgraded it with 2GB RAM and an Intel Atom N270 CPU at 1.60GHz. Anyone have suggestions on the best operating system for this device?

I would just continue to use XP on it if you're not dealing with critical data. That being said, a form of Linux like Ubuntu might be a better choice since you can then run an updated web browser.

Considered trying Linux but never used it before, unsure about the installation process.

Choose Linux Mint for a straightforward, user-friendly system. Many tutorials exist on installation, but if you've used Windows via USB before, the process remains similar. Employ Rufus to transfer the ISO to your USB drive, power it off, and you're ready to go.
