Yes. He said his dad purchased it at birth, which could be more than ten years ago. But if it was bought last year for $200, I’d feel sorry for him.

He purchased it right after its launch, which coincided with my birth in 2006.

Could you clarify which build you're referring to?

For a 3900x setup, you'll require a fresh motherboard. You should also upgrade to more RAM and a dedicated graphics card, as the 3900x lacks built-in graphics capabilities.

You're planning a full upgrade but aren't sure how to handle the old CPU. There are options—you could repurpose it for a different build, check if it's still functional in another system, or consider recycling it responsibly.

I mean, the only idea that comes to mind is keeping the old PC and just installing Spotify on it, connecting speakers, and using it for playback. But that seems like a pretty awkward setup for a computer, since it also needs a monitor and there are much better options available. I don’t see any other purpose for it right now.

A Core 2 Duo remains suitable for everyday internet tasks provided it has enough RAM and a graphics card. You might retain the older machine with that CPU for running older software when needed, or repurpose it as a media streaming device connected to a TV. It may struggle with 4K content but should function adequately for 1080p.

It seems the older PC is now adjusting to this setup, as I'm sharing this on a Core2 Duo machine. Thanks for the update.

I rely on my previous https://techable.com/apple/specs/imac-2-...h-aluminum for reference. It features a dual-core mobile chip. Functions well, started with 1GB RAM, then upgraded to 4GB... and swapped the HDD for an SSD. Now it performs adequately for browsing.
