I posted about the cost of Ryzen 3100s and noticed prices often reach around 200$. I was looking for alternatives but kept hearing that 4 cores aren't suitable for gaming. It seems we've shifted the idea that 8 cores or more are necessary, though the 3100 still works with older GPUs at 1080p. As long as it's not for streaming, people are focusing on having more cores just for games like Fortnite.

Back in the day, two-core CPUs performed well for gaming. Nowadays, some titles fail to launch when they sense a dual-core setup, and even newer games are leaning toward that trend. Open-world experiences already max out at four cores, and if you aim for triple-A titles in five years—especially with consoles boasting eight cores—four cores won’t suffice. If you’re looking to run older games, four cores still work just fine.

Status update: More users are choosing CPUs with multiple cores for better performance across various games. Single-core processors are becoming outdated since modern titles leverage multiple threads. Many are seeking alternatives to improve their gaming experience. The main concern is finding reliable options that match current game demands.

Examine combat zones V, war-torn areas, Assassin’s Creed, even Grand Theft Auto V—lots of cases where dual processors fall short. You might hit 60 frames per second, but it often comes with stutters and tiny frame drops that really hurt the gameplay. Plus, those processors run at full capacity constantly. With the new generation consoles coming out, CPU demands will rise significantly and could make dual-core setups outdated in even more streamlined titles.

I hadn't considered that a cheaper option could be an 8-core chip...

We understand this and aim to discover the top choices available, ensuring you avoid problems next year when newer systems with quad-core 3200G performance might struggle in older titles while your older Ryzen 1600 runs smoothly.

Yea but theres more to CPU usage than core numbers and threads, CCX layouts and architecture can turn a cpu even a few years old like a 3600 to pretty much the same gaming performance as a 3300x which i think people are forgetting. Smaller transistor sizes mean faster speeds and more efficient usage
