There are occasional stability concerns when using an RTX 5070 Ti.
Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting since I recently assembled a gaming PC. I’m facing a problem that’s really hard to solve. During some boot-ups, the graphics quality is extremely poor, mouse movements are unstable, and any game I load tends to crash immediately or stutter heavily before freezing completely—sometimes forcing a restart is necessary. On other occasions, everything works perfectly, but I haven’t noticed any specific issue during startup (like problems on cold start but not after resetting).
Here are the key system details:
- GPU: MSI RTX 5070 Ti Gaming Trio OC, 16GB RAM
- RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 at 6000MHz
- PSU: 1000W quiet Power Zone 2
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- Monitor: Samsung 34" G55T UWQHD (potential replacement)
- Additional notes: I’ve tried various troubleshooting steps.
What I have attempted so far:
1. BIOS is fully updated and correctly configured (EXPO enabled); monitor firmware is also up to date.
2. Latest NVIDIA driver installed; an older version was removed cleanly using DDU in safe mode.
3. VESA certified DP 2.1 cable between GPU and monitor is used; chatGPT mentioned my old cable as a possible cause, but it wasn’t the issue.
4. I forced the PCIe lane to a specific generation (3, 4, and 5) instead of leaving it auto.
5. Disabled HDR, turned off freesync on the monitor, and reduced refresh rate to 100Hz.
6. Verified GPU is properly seated, has enough power (600W cable directly into GPU, then another into motherboard), and all power connectors are firmly in place.
7. Tested a different DP port on the GPU.
8. Ran FurMark: when the system is stable, it runs smoothly at 200+ FPS with temperatures stabilizing around 70°C. When performance drops, it only lasts about 10 seconds at 15FPS before crashing.
9. Checked Event Viewer and noticed an NVDLM error around game crashes or severe crashes that trigger a restart.
I’ve tried everything and still can’t pinpoint the cause. It seems like I might have a faulty GPU. I’m planning to contact MSI tomorrow but wanted to share this first here.
Any assistance would be really appreciated!
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
BIOS is fully current and everything is properly configured (EXPO activated). Firmware monitoring is also up to date.
For clarity, please share the BIOS version of your motherboard. There are several discussions where users claim they're using the newest version but still have pending updates. Regarding BIOS, could you also mention the brand and model of your other hardware?
The latest Nvidia driver is installed (the previous one was removed cleanly via DDU in safe mode).
Open BIOS, turn off the iGPU, then in the OS GUI use DDU to uninstall all GPU drivers (Intel, AMD, Nvidia), restart, and manually install the newest GPU driver from Nvidia's support page using an elevated command—right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.
Your system has 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM at 6000MHz.
Do you have a link to this RAM package?
How are you managing processor cooling on your build? What is the case model? What about the storage unit? If you're using a riser cable, consider testing without it.
Thanks for the reply! My motherboard is the MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk Wifi and its running BIOS v.1A69.
I've just tried what you suggested and disabled the iGPU from the BIOS, went into safe mode, removed the drivers for the iGPU and the GPU (it didn't give me an option to specifically select the iGPU so I just selected "all GPUs") and then booted back into regular Windows 11 and reinstalled the latest GPU Game Ready driver only (v581.42 downloaded from the Nvidia support page today) using the elevated command as a clean install.

.
The processor is cooled using an Arctic liquid cooler 3 360mm AIO venting out of the top of the case. The case is a Fractal North XL with a glass panel. I have 3 Arctic P14 intake fans on the front and 1 exhaust on the rear.
My storage is the Samsung 2TB 9100 Pro M-2 2280. I'm not using a riser cable.
I will monitor to see if what you suggested has solved the issue but is there anything else you would suggest based on the additional information I've given you?
Update - after all the nonsense I tried, you've only resolved the problem for me! It seems the system was attempting to use the iGPU for no particular reason...
Update #2 - still experiencing graphics problems. The event viewer reports these four errors:
1. Shader program header 11 error
2. Shader program header 11 error
3. Graphics exception: ESR 0x405840=0xa0040800
4. Graphics exception: ESR 0x405848=0x80000000
Please let me know if you have any other suggestions.
Updated #3 - started an RMA for my GPU and recently replaced it with a new one. The same error keeps occurring. During installation, I saw a loose connection on the detachable 4-pin connector for the motherboard power cable, but I’ve ensured it’s now secure, so it shouldn’t be the cause. Any advice would be appreciated?
I'm facing the exact same issue as you on the T, with all descriptions being my concern. I've tried everything, but now I'm thinking about returning this card and switching to an AMD alternative. Nvidia seems to be underperforming.
Did you verify that the chipset drivers on your motherboard are properly installed and current?
Cheers Sham and Memo for the reply. I completed a clean Windows install with all new drivers, including chipset ones, since I couldn't find anything else. Two boots in and everything seems fine so far. I'll post an update on this thread later to see if the problem is fixed.
