I have a ROG Strix B450f motherboard with the latest BIOS installed and a 3200Mhz 2x8 RAM setup. Initially, it would only boot if RAM was present in slots A1 and A2, automatically adjusting the speed to 3200Mhz. After manually setting the speed to 2666Mhz and adding another stick into the B slots, it worked. Once I selected a lower speed in the dropdown, it booted at 2933Mhz without any advanced settings. The DOCP profile set to 3200Mhz failed to boot, along with speeds above 2933Mhz, and this issue persisted even with a different RAM kit. We need details about your processor, including its speed and voltage settings. Also, information on your power supply and temperature readings is important. While your RAM and motherboard might support the right speeds, they could run faster than the processor requires, causing the RAM to slow down when the processor slows. Additionally, if your PSU reaches its maximum output, the RAM may also throttle to match the power limit.
It's a Ryzen 5 3600 with standard speeds. The PSU is an EVGA 500W unit, so temperature shouldn't be a major concern as it's managed by the BIOS.
With that chip, unless you change it yourself...it will attempt to slow your RAM. I set it to their 3600 setting in BIOS, but in Windows it rarely runs that quickly. My 5800X doesn’t have a cooler strong enough to push it to full speed, so the RAM throttles to match its own timing.
