I recently purchased Battlefield 1 and experienced performance issues while using only 4GB of RAM, achieving frame rates between 30-40 FPS on low settings in single-player mode. My laptop is an older model and isn't ideal for modern games, constantly hitting 98% memory usage. I’m planning to add another 8GB of RAM, bringing my total to 12GB. Do you anticipate this upgrade will improve my frame rates?
My system details:
Intel Core i3-4030u
Nvidia GeForce GT 840M (overclocked)
4GB RAM
I've watched numerous videos showcasing smooth gameplay with 8GB of RAM, mirroring my hardware specifications. However, users with an Intel Core i5-4200u processor consistently achieve 30-40 FPS. The i5-4200u is roughly equivalent in performance to my i3. My goal is to eventually play the game with up to 64 players at a minimum of 30 FPS after upgrading my RAM. I’m on a tight budget, and purchasing a dedicated gaming PC is financially challenging.
I'm seeking advice from anyone who can offer insight.
Here are the minimum system requirements for Battlefield 1:
Operating System: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10
Processor (AMD): AMD FX-6350
Processor (Intel): Core i5 6600K
Memory: 8GB RAM
Graphics Card (AMD): AMD Radeon HD 7850 with 2GB of VRAM
Graphics Card (Nvidia): Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 with 2GB of VRAM
DirectX: Compatible video card or equivalent version 11.0
Notably, RAM isn’t the sole solution; other components also require attention. Furthermore, Battlefield 1’s optimization isn't perfect. Having two separate 4GB RAM modules is preferable to one 8GB module for stability and performance reasons.
However, I’m limited in what upgrades I can make due to it being a laptop. Adding more RAM would likely complicate things further. The most sensible approach might be to consider purchasing a desktop PC or trading my laptop for one if I’ve already done so. If gaming is the primary reason for acquiring this device, it may not be a worthwhile investment and could lead to an unpleasant gaming experience.
I have repeated this countless times: my finances are limited. I’m unable to assemble a high-performance gaming PC. All I desire is to enjoy Battlefield 1. It’s likely I won't be able to run newer games for a year, but it's gratifying to witness my modest system handle the game.
Currently, there are just two days remaining until the download completes. I intend to experiment with multiplayer using 4GB of RAM, and if I observe acceptable frame rates despite occasional freezes, I will subsequently upgrade my memory to improve performance.
Hello everyone, I recently attempted multiplayer and experienced significant performance issues – averaging 30 frames per second on maps accommodating up to 64 players, accompanied by frequent freezing and substantial frame drops. I believe this is primarily due to my 4 gigabyte of RAM, along with various error messages indicating DirectX and memory problems. If I were to increase my RAM to 12 gigabytes, do you believe this would eliminate these freezing and dipping issues, and potentially allow me to achieve at least 35 frames per second? Thank you for your response.
Hello everyone, I recently attempted multiplayer and experienced significant issues, achieving only 30 frames per second on maps accommodating up to 64 players. These were frequently accompanied by substantial pauses and noticeable performance drops, likely due to my limited 4 gigabyte of RAM. I've encountered error messages indicating problems with DirectX and memory, which I suspect is related to my RAM capacity. If I were to increase my RAM to 12 gigabytes, do you believe this would resolve the freezing and stuttering I'm encountering, and would it allow me to maintain a consistent 35 frames per second? Thank you. The DirectX issue is likely stemming from the graphics card.

Absolutely, and definitely. Take the step and share your thoughts!
