Should I get this VGA?
Should I get this VGA?
Would it be better to use the MSI 970 GTX VGA as your primary graphics card in this system? The specifications are as follows: motherboard P35-DS3 rev 2.1 (with Xeon and SLIC 2.1 modded), GPU GT 730, CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 (maximum 3.67 GHz), RAM G.SKILL F2-6400-CL5D 800 MHz DDR2 (4 GB, additional RAM arriving soon), power supply MSI MAG A650BN 650W, and add-on cards including a TP-LINK TG3468 Ethernet card plus one more PCI Ethernet card, housed in the DELUX MG760 case.
I actually received the GTX 970, the ASUS STRIX DIRECTCUII OC model. It only required a 1x8-pin for the PCI-E power, and it has been working well for the past two months. It's also very capable.
😉
Thanks everyone for your assistance—please mark this as solved if you can!
It seems you could explore options like the GTX750Ti or GTX1050Ti, but your system won<|pad|>'s be limited. You might also encounter a black screen issue because your motherboard doesn't support UEFI BIOS, whereas most GPUs do.
You'll be impressed by the GTX 970. I often have it around because it's very user-friendly for older systems. Your computer was only six years old when the GTX 970 launched, and your options were limited to the GTX 8800, 9800, or the GTX 260, 280, or 290, none of which had direct-x 12. I'm not sure if the GTX 650, 670, or 680 supports direct-x 12. That's why the GTX 970 is a solid choice to keep your old PC running as long as possible. It works well with games up to 2015, but beyond that, many titles won't run unless your CPU can handle the limitations. AVX is one such limitation. Nvidia still provides drivers for the GTX 970 on Windows 10 and 11. What operating system are you using?
Windows 7, 8.1 and Vista work well in my triple boot setup. However, I'm concerned about the GTX 970 compatibility since I have a Legacy CSM BIOS and am uncertain if it will support it. As Lutfij mentioned, I might run into problems!
I use all my old PCs without UEFI BIOS. The old BIOS and the GTX 970 are still working well.
I've found another socket mine is a 1366 from 2009 running a GTX Titan Pascal on old BIOS. We also have GTX 970 in many old systems from 2009 to 2016 with old BIOS.
1151 and 1155 work
1366 also works
I'm just tired, but these are a few examples I remember the GTX 970 handles fine.
I believe this could be effective! Check out the video here: https://youtu.be/LJVXhwTv3RU?si=tufTysbYX7LP3X9v
We still have a single LGA775 motherboard from an old Gateway gaming PC that the GTX 970 worked well with.
