Should I get this VGA?
Should I get this VGA?
I plan to ask my parents to purchase a used item from EBay (good luck)
These are the three models I've tried, with the first link being the most of that model. It's never been a problem and has always functioned well. YMMV
I searched for Nvidia's GTX 970 founders edition. It has a black cover with the blower-style fan cooler. I haven't had any problems with used ones I've purchased. The only issue was occasional dusting here and there. We own around 6 or 7 of these units.
Another pair I owned was the EVGA duel fan ACX 2.0, which I bought cheap because it needed a new fan. It's still working fine with the new fan, and I replaced the fan about five years ago.
The ASUS Strix DirectCU model was also bought for around 20 bucks and is still in good condition.
Just some thoughts, I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not. It doesn't seem like a proper solution. The GTX 970 no longer receives driver updates. If you were to upgrade to something like the 1050 with similar performance specs (though I'm not sure if they're the same), the newer model would likely still get updates since it's a newer generation. More certain is that if you're using Windows and rely on a DirectX release for some version, the 1000 series could support a more recent DirectX version. Performance differences aside, you'd probably find the 970 unable to run certain software that the next-gen version could handle. There are many compatibility reasons why a newer design would be preferable (and possibly available at the same price).
Also, I'm not sure about this specific 970, but many older graphics cards from that time don't support HDMI natively. A newer generation like the 1050, which is still a full generation older than the 970, would support HDMI.
I understand this information is helpful for my standard setup, but I’m only going to put this card into my old PC since I’m just playing old games there (Geometry Dash, Minecraft, GTA SA, IV, and Portal 1 and 2). Driver updates aren’t really important for me. I do have both a DVI to VGA adapter and an HDMI to VGA adapter, so I think compatibility is possible. Your reasoning also makes sense because you consider reusing the card in certain situations due to support and DirectX.
