I just wanted to check if your local network folder can be reached from other connections and if files can be removed or copied easily—typically ranging from about 120Mb to 6.2Gb in size. I’ve heard VPNs might help, as my dad used one to access files across 3500 km, so it seems feasible. I’m looking for something free or very affordable with a simple setup, and I’m trying to get started with Hamachi because a friend suggested it.

What router model do you have? Can you manage its settings?

It seems like you're dealing with a wireless gateway, possibly an old Telstra modem. It appears to be separating wireless and Ethernet communication from the admin interface. Since you're new to networking, this setup might be confusing but is common in older systems.

Goddamn Telstra, right? It might not support a built-in VPN, especially with an older model. If it isn’t using the software like Hamachi, you probably won’t have any choice. Sorry for the hassle.

You can install an OpenVPN server on your machine, adjust the router settings to redirect OpenVPN traffic to your device, and that's it.

they should offer a way to share files, like a local dropbox, but with a hosted version. I’ve noticed my dad joining the home network and then using a VPN to reach a folder in another state—suggesting there might be a feature for that.

Would you like to grant someone permission to view specific documents?

It's a concern since the folder exceeds 2.5 TB, making cloud storage options like OneDrive costly to use.

Right now I'm using a Raspberry Pi 2 with PivPNG enabled, allowing me to reach any shared directory on my network from anywhere when connected to the device.

What's the internet speed? It seems the upload is slow, so even with a VPN it'll be slow.
