Question PC crashes and driver timeouts after installing an RX 9070 XT?
Hey everyone,
I recently received an RX 9070 XT in early May, and since then I've faced several problems—mainly system crashes and driver timeouts. These issues weren't present with my previous setup, so I'm pretty sure they're connected to the new GPU.
The main difficulty is that these problems are hard to reproduce and happen intermittently. For instance, I went a whole month without any issues, even while gaming regularly. Sometimes the screen freezes for just a few seconds, and other times the PC crashes abruptly (not a clean shutdown but more like pressing the reset button) before rebooting. The Event Viewer logged kernel power problems (see image below), so I replaced my old Corsair TX-M 650W PSU with a new 850W unit to eliminate power delivery as a potential cause.
Unfortunately, the problem still occurred. Crashes mainly happened during gaming (DOOM Eternal, Elden Ring, ForzaHorizon4) and occasionally when using Stable Diffusion for image generation. Also, not every driver timeout appears in the Event Viewer as a critical failure—some do, like the last one where the system froze but didn't completely crash.
At first, I thought it was due to early driver or software instability, but now I'm feeling frustrated and seriously thinking about filing an RMA. Before taking that step, I wanted to hear your thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks!
I don't have personal experiences, but typically the BIOS is updated regularly by manufacturers. You can check your motherboard's documentation or manufacturer website for the most recent update schedule.
It has been this year. It seems to be the latest update available.
The card might be harmed by using a 650W power supply. Inspect the power connectors on the card for any harm or a disconnected wire.
how is that? no, there is nothing wrong on the power connector. like I said, I can run fur mark for hours and nothing is happening, but when firing up forza 4 it crashes after 3 minutes.
What graphics card did you have before the 9070 XT? If it was from Nvidia, did you clear the driver with DDU prior to installing the Radeon model? And indeed, running a 650 W power supply—especially an older one—with your new 9070 XT wasn't ideal.
Remove amd chipset software, then install driver from SDI !!! It's work
