I tried lowering my Asus ROG Strix G531GT-BQ024T laptop voltage using Intel XTU to -140mV and it worked great. But after I reset things back to default, only the CPU core offset is set to zero while other numbers like turbo boost power max changed. Now the system acts crazy: my GPU is running at an overclocked speed when it shouldn't be, and my laptop gets hot and makes a lot of noise. What should I do? My computer has these specs: Intel i5-9300H with 2.4GHz base and 4.1GHz turbo, 8GB of RAM, fast SSDs and HDDs, an NVIDIA GTX 1650 GDDR5 graphics card, and a specific XTU profile where the CPU clock is set to 4000mhz and the GPU clock is set to 1935mhz.
What version of Intel's XTU did you use for your undervolt, or were you using Throttle Stop? Did you also have the latest BIOS installed on that laptop? I know now that you can't do undervolts anymore after Windows 10 stopped allowing it because of an update. Still curious how you got to -140... was it done slowly in steps of ten or five maybe?
I used the newest Intel XTU and set my core offset to -140mV. It worked well, but when I went back to use the default profile, it changed things. Now the turbo power cap goes up to 70W instead of less, and the laptop feels way too fast for me. So I cut that down to 45W, but nothing changes at all. Now both my CPU and GPU are running hotter than before because they are actually overclocked.
I tried that before, it didn't work. I changed the turbo boost and short pulse limits too, still nothing happened. Can removing Intel XTU and resetting the BIOS fix this issue?
You can try removing Xtu so it stops messing with your BIOS when you turn on your computer. Just resetting your BIOS settings might fix the problem.
Should I just remove it right away, or do I need to call for help?
I don't see why taking that program out makes life harder. Maybe you could ask for help, but they probably won't be able to fix it by just resetting the computer back to where you started.
I don't know what XTU actually does. Is it just changing values that get set back to defaults if you remove the program or go straight into BIOS settings? Or does it erase those default BIOS settings from the manufacturer and save its own instead? That's why I'm nervous about uninstalling XTU. I've never tried undervolting or overclocking before, so I feel new in this stuff.
