Paragon faces closure as Fortnite thrives
It's great they're maintaining the servers for another three months. The game showed promise but lacked sufficient support.
August 2014 pre-alpha began. They mentioned progressing but not at the same rapid pace as Fornite currently. They confirmed ongoing work on UT4, which is undergoing code refactoring at present. For comparison, I’m not a big Moba gamer, but except for a few aspects, it feels more enjoyable than DotA and LoL. I just hoped from the start they’d improve the pacing to be more similar to Smite. Also, the card system was quite confusing in many phases.
It's disappointing to hear about this. Paragon was a highly polished and visually appealing game, which makes losing all the effort feel especially frustrating. From the developers' perspective, there were always minor issues, and even with repeated emphasis on the card system, it never quite matched the smoothness or ease of learning found in other MOBA titles. Retaining players and growing the player base proved challenging. It's irksome, isn't it? All those great character designs and hard work disappeared, leaving only a sense of loss. Still, it was a good time while it lasted.
It seems the experience didn't resonate with MOBA or FPS enthusiasts.
In the card system, it acts as a substitute for an item shop. It’s similar to how HotS operates without traditional items, focusing instead on choosing talents through levels. The card system wasn’t great, but it kept the lane-focused gameplay strong. It feels more like a MOBA experience compared to typical MOBA or lane-pushing games, and people generally accept it. I’m not sure what you meant by FPS players.
searching for a replacement to Paladins that wasn't OW, R6S or TF2. Not really into massive MOBAs, but I like hero shooters and the Moba elements in Paladins are pretty much what I enjoyed (though the card system turned out to be a bit disappointing). I heard Paragon might have a similar system too, but my limited play felt quite restrictive compared to what I used to like. I actually preferred a bit more of Smite than Paragon.
