There’s no motion sickness unless the lens flares outnumber a J.J. Abrams movie—which they never do. My wife enjoys quietly following me and startling me during horror games. A $600 PC with VR capabilities is achievable; the cost barrier isn’t as high as people assume.

If you purchase the PC with the Vive for $1,500, that breaks down to $800 for the Vive and $700 for the PC. It really makes sense as a deal if you consider it, and it's safe to say the same PC built itself would cost more than $700.

I misinterpreted your request. When I say cheaper, smaller, and more powerful, I’m referring to the kind of headset you’d expect in about ten years.

Have you used a Vive yet? It's actually quite manageable, just under a pound. Wearing a motorcycle helmet makes it even more uncomfortable.

It's clear we shouldn't wait for what's coming because the present shapes everything. The headset feels really good and most VR experiences last only a short time, so it works well while you're moving. That $700 machine is actually reasonable. If we stick with the same computer, I'd opt for a bigger SSD instead of mixing HDD and SSD...

Yeah i have, its cool that you enjoy it and you don't get any motion sickness but i just personally feel like there is a good chance it wont take off this time. Fingers crossed that it does though.

Currently things will run slowly due to pricing issues. Fewer people own a Vive means game sales won’t be the same. Everything is now evaluated in terms of money. I might feel nauseous when my FPS drops under 90, but it’s not really nausea—it’s just eye strain. Things should improve once prices fall and indie developers profit from quality series. Right now, anyone can create great Vive games and build a successful career thanks to the popular titles. I don’t understand why more creators aren’t focusing on polished VR experiences. I believe growth will happen as the market expands, most of which are just re-releases at this stage.

There were Black Friday offers for a Rift PC at $999 with additional store credit and other perks. I’m hoping Valve will match Oculus on software improvements; reducing hardware needs from ASW is crucial for PC VR.

I understand, yet the main challenge lies in reducing motion sickness concerns and gaining developer support. If CoD or BF were involved, VR would take off rapidly.

Ifor cod entering VR would be a huge mistake. Fast-paced action games and VR motion tracking don’t fit well together. Until they discover better ways to walk in VR, it’ll be tough. I’d definitely skip Rift.
