Games that work with a controller on Windows rely on XInput for input. If your controller is compatible, you should be okay.
They won't function properly without driver solutions. A 360 controller would be more reliable. The Xbox One controller runs well on Windows 8.1. I'm uncertain about version 7, but a driver fix might help.
I own one and it functions perfectly. It needs a brief moment for the system to identify it, but once that’s done, all the games I’ve tried—Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Portal 2, Grid Auto Sport, Batman: Arkham City, Arkham Asylum—work seamlessly for me.

I had an Xbone controller this morning for Christmas, and everything is functioning flawlessly on Windows 7. It works instantly without any setup. It’s also battery-free because it connects via USB. It performed perfectly with Fez, though. Now I’m looking for more games focused on the controller.
