I’m working on building my own PC right now, which means I can’t test it yet. I’m still setting aside money for a motherboard and a cheap GPU, among other things.

Can you send back the CPU for a replacement? If you're still budgeting for the components, those few weeks for an RMA shouldn't be too long. If the advice from the Reddit users here is right, you won't get working audio on your motherboard without that pin. Although sound cards are inexpensive, I'm not sure if the same problem would affect expansion cards or external sound cards.

I found this item on EBay and I’m considering a fix. Either I can warm it up to locate an additional pin or I can go with the safer option of inserting the pin directly into the socket and placing the CPU normally.

you can also put the pim into the right hole and make sure its connected to the CPU. Not sure if that is a great way to do it but, I think it may be possible to loose fit, not fully recommended and if one can add something to the pin to make an easier/better connect DIY style.

That’s what I said too. I’m uncertain about its effectiveness and unsure where to find another pin. I don’t have a backup, and it’s not available anywhere specific.

A solid metal connection is essential, though locating something that works without linking to other parts can be challenging.

Consent - The audio onboard should function properly, though the chip itself isn't essential for it. A soundcard can help resolve this issue. Avoid trying to heat the component, as that might loosen nearby pins and render the chip unusable. If you're not confident with soldering, refrain from attempting it because prolonged heat can damage the entire circuit. It should operate normally, so proceed without further action.

Yes, you could try that. Placing a pin in the socket where it normally goes might still allow it to function, but success depends on the exact fit and condition of the component.
