This sounds like a solid plan. I'd be able to handle large memory demands without sacrificing GPU power, and running multiple GPUs would make multi-GPU rendering feasible. A system setup that stays reliable for several years should work well, especially if I avoid overly demanding tasks. I’m comfortable accepting a slight drop in gaming performance.

They shouldn't really impact gaming performance much—they should match a standard 7000 Ryzen, just a bit fewer cores but packed with cache. You can begin with a 24-core or 32-core processor and later switch to a 64 or even 96-core model if needed.

I favor classic and indie titles. IPC usually matters more than core counts, though disabling extra cores/threads doesn’t seem to affect me much on my 5950X. Yes, a 24-core setup would be a noticeable upgrade; I’d likely target 32 cores and keep it steady unless heavy rendering becomes a priority. The main challenge is storage—currently I have a 30-40TB array and prefer Linux with ZFS for speed and stability.

Those will still run at high speeds, especially with the Zen 4 IPC, so older games should work fine. You’ll also have sufficient PCIe lanes for additional NVM or HBA cards.

No real drawback with having too many cores—only the essential ones are needed, the rest remain idle. Premium chips typically offer superior silicon quality and clock speeds, which is why a 5900X performs slightly better than a 5600X, allowing it to run at 4.8 to 5GHz while the latter can't.

Sometimes you need to balance single, dual, triple, or quad threads with more cores, which can help but isn't always enough—especially with the 5950X. I’d rather run a 5600/7600 setup paired with 32GB fast DDR for gaming, and a Threadripper or 7950X with ECC Unbuffered memory for rendering and stability.

The software I use works on both platforms. It consumes about 100% CPU and a bit of GPU power. I’m moving to Linux for video and 3D tasks, so I’m uncertain about future performance. I’ll be using a VM for Windows to play games that dislike Linux.
