Be cautious when working with VMs, as problems can arise unless you carefully separate components. I stopped using Windows in a VM because I didn’t want to constantly exclude certain cores from Linux whenever I needed to play games. However, if I had used AMD back then, isolating an entire CCD to the VM might have been more sensible. Still, you’ll need a GPU to pass through to the VM, which means you must remove that GPU from Linux before starting, so the host OS uses the iGPU. It’s really frustrating.

It seems most of the games I play run smoothly on Linux. The main problems I've noticed are with the Steam Deck. I'm considering trying it out before fully committing, or using a dual boot setup. I'll see what works best. Having several old SSDs with decent life left makes a temporary or permanent dual boot quite straightforward. But I really don't like Windows 11 so much that I'd rather stop playing games than stick with it.

This refers to technology predating modern standards by a significant margin. You mentioned "last-gen hardware," which likely points to systems from the early to mid-2000s.

Sure, I'll keep it focused on what works for gaming. Let's move forward without getting sidetracked by other topics.
