I checked whether an i9 9900k at 3440x1440 would match a 4070 Ti with DDR4 3200MHz. It seems possible, but I’m also considering Black Friday and wanting to save money. If you don’t need to invest heavily in new components, it’d be better on your budget. For a CPU, I’m leaning toward something more mid-range since I didn’t upgrade as much as I thought I should. You’ll still want something capable of handling the 4070 Ti at this price point, especially if you expect it to be used for several years.
I experienced the need to upgrade my overclocked 9900k after purchasing an RTX 4080 for gaming at 1440p with 165hz. The 9900k @ 5.2ghz all-core struggled in tough games, causing noticeable stutter and a 1% drop in performance in titles like Tiny Tina's Wonderland, Hell Let Loose, Metro Exodus, and Dying Light 2. Being particularly sensitive to this, it became almost impossible to play. Once I upgraded to the 7700x, all issues disappeared and everything ran smoothly afterward. I was also using 32gb of DDR4 at 3200mhz CL16.
I am personaly very happy with my AMD 7700x, this is my first AMD cpu and its been great. They also make a 6 core 7600/x that is a beast for gaming and keeps up with the big boys. For AMD AM5 CPU's you would need new RAM as they only support DDR5, DDR5 is quite affordable now compared to when it launched. Here are 2 pictures showing the 7600/x in action vs the more expensive ( 2-3x the price ) in gaming at 1080p and 1440p with a 4090. Its a 10 game average. Intels 13600k is also a decent CPU and can be used with DDR4 and DDR5 depending on the motherboard.
Thanks, I might choose a Ryzen 5 7600X based on what Black Friday offers. If the 4090 can’t handle the bottleneck, I’d opt for a 4070 Ti instead. I’d probably need an AM5 motherboard and my Dark Rock Pro 4 should work with AMD CPUs. Just have to locate that bracket in the storage area. For RAM speed, I’m not very experienced with DDR5 yet.
Absolutely, I have used the 7600x in a few builds so far and its been awesome! Its probably my favorite 'budget' gaming CPU, its a mighty beast for what it is. The best option would be a B650 motherboard, quite affordable with good feature sets. The Dark Rock Pro 4 will be more than enough for the 7600x, I use a NH-D15 myself on the 7700x with a constant fan speed of 30% during all workloads. DDR5 6000 CL30 is a good sweet spot for DDR5 memory AM5 platform will still be supported for a few more years ( until 2026 at least ), So any new CPU you can put into the motherboard with a BIOS update. So in 4-5 years you can buy a 9800X3D ( Or similar ) and maybe a 6070ti and have a 'brand new' system for a few more years This is also why I went AM5 this time. I have personaly used several of the Gigabyte B650 AORUS ELITE AX, MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI and ASUS B650 TUF PLUS WIFI and never had a single issue with either board. Thanks! Considering today's GPU prices... And with other expenses on the rise, the latest models aren't worth it anymore. Right now I'm thinking AMD 7600x 4070 TI 32 Gigs DDR5 6000 MHZ CL 30. I'm wondering why the B650 is preferred over the A620?
That actually look like one heck of a gaming PC! I will admit I haven't looked much into the a620 boards. They weren't released when I did my own research and previous AM5 builds so I kinda skipped them, they launched 6 months after B650. I personaly like a decent midhigh board but thats just personal preference. The a620 TUF WIFI actually look really solid. This is of course entirely up to you, I need to do more research on the a620 to form a strong enough opinion, I do not know enough about them yet.
