Are you asking about whether to consider just the core or also the number of threads? I have an older dual Xeon workstation with 32 cores and 64 threads.
It could be slightly affected by Intel 12th generation and newer processors with their e-Cores.
Let's review the components you've listed.
PC model: i56600k with 4 cores
New build: i9-7920X (12 cores)
Existing setups:
- 3x Xeon E5-1680 v2 (8 cores each)
- x47B (98SE)
- AMD 5200 (4 cores)
- FX-9370 (8 cores)
- i5-3570K (4 cores)
- a few Xeon 3670 (6 cores)
- a few Xeon 3680 (6 cores)
- i7920 (4 cores)

I possess over 30 processors, mainly older 775 dual-core units and some 45nm 1366 chips (w3670, w3680 I7 980X). I haven’t assembled a full system yet since I’m still figuring out how far my X58A UDR can reach with 5/6 sticks. I’m not stopping at 2400 MHz or less.
Only tally the CPUs actively engaged in a desktop or laptop setup.
