Hello everyone, I'm trying to connect a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE ARGB white fan to my Gigabyte z790 AORUS ELITE AX motherboard. The wiring setup is confusing—I have two white wires from each fan and one black split connector. Could anyone help me figure out the correct connections? I've attached a photo of the fan, the wiring, and the installation guide. Any tips would be really helpful!
yes, the cable that connects to the splitter is the one that manages the rgb signals. you can link these together so you only need a single rgb connection on your motherboard. the second wire handles the actual fan. on your motherboard there are typically several ports where you can attach them, but i recommend using the ones labeled CPU Fan and CPU OPT. you might need to look in your manual to find their locations—they’re usually at the top of the board if you have multiple fans in those slots. i suggest purchasing a fan hub, such as one from phanteks that supports 3 pin and 4 pin pwm fans for around £20 (prices may vary by region). with this hub and some fan splitters, all your fans can share one socket. keep in mind that each socket on the hub or your motherboard can usually accommodate only three fans if you don’t use a hub.
I understand your setup and the situation. For your motherboard, the RGB connector is typically placed near the front or side where you connect the power cables. Since the black splitter is damaged, you might need to replace it if you want RGB functionality. Regarding the fans, the two 4-pin headers usually connect to the CPU fan and CPU OPT pins on your motherboard.
The two 4-pin connectors fit into the CPU fan and CPU control ports. The ARGB sockets are typically found at the bottom of the board. I own a Gigabyte Aorus Pro and have them installed there, but I recommend checking the motherboard manual for a specific layout since it can differ.
i recall the rgb connections use just three pins, though i should verify that after the long time i've been handling rgb issues.
We have a screwdriver to help with it! I'm using two 4-pin connectors and planning to attach them to the motherboard now.
I’m not aiming for a strong pull unless there’s no release catch. If that’s the case, it might just need a gentle nudge. Please keep in mind I don’t want to overdo it and cause any issues. If there’s no release catch, it could mean you should try pulling it softly first. To be clear quickly: is the black cable a fan splitter? Yes? Connect both fans to it, then plug the other end into the CPU fan—no need to worry about the CPU setting unless you have a splitter. The setting is optional if you don’t have one.
It seems there are both 3 and 4 pin connections involved. I'm a bit confused about this. It could be helpful to wait for someone else to respond before making any changes.
