It seems you're asking about possible causes for slow performance after certain steps. Have you checked if Windows is trying to write important files to the HDD, such as the pagefile or using it to enhance system speed? Consider defragmenting your internal drive. Move necessary files off the external drive and format it using tools like USBFormat from Hiren's BootCD. If you notice any improvement, let me know. Also, confirm whether Hyper-V is running in the background on your host machine.

No, I rarely rely on the Hyper-V VM, perhaps only a couple of times in the coming months. I don’t own any internal HDDs—just SSDs—and I’d rather avoid formatting them. Did you mean to format the external HDD instead? Also, it looks like the next boot will be slow whether the dock is powered on or off, but if the dock isn’t used (dock is plugged in and off), then the next start should be quick no matter the situation.

They asked about formatting the EHDD separately, not the internal SSD. It doesn’t help to defragment an SSD that’s already in place. Have you checked if the dock works on another machine?

You tested the dock on another machine with a single M.2 SSD and an i5-6600k processor. The performance remained smooth, and no slowdown occurred during the tests. You mentioned you'll return in roughly 18 hours.

I’ll also test using another HDD for a day to check the boot-up performance.
