I believe Windows 8.1 outperforms Windows 7 for several reasons. It launches quicker, supports DirectX 11.2, delivers improved gaming performance, runs with fewer system resources making it lighter, and the Metro interface helps organize program icons effectively. Additional perks include smoother updates and overall a more refined experience compared to Windows 7.

I can afford the Student version for $70, but another concern is that is it are you able to keep EVERYTHING if I'm upgrading from 7 to 8.

I possess 8.1 and can bypass all the metro requirements entirely.

If you already have Windows 7 use it, no need to get Windows 8. Yes.

Sure, I appreciate the option to personalize the colors. Your worry about maintaining everything from Windows 7 during an upgrade is valid.

Not a good value, especially if you're buying a new PC—8 is fine, but you're uncertain if the investment pays off. Slight improvement in performance, but the cost doesn't justify it.

That’s a solid configuration you’ve got there... I believe switching to version 8.1 will definitely boost your performance. It can raise FPS in certain situations and also reduce RAM consumption.

They claim using Windows 7 over 8.1 is incorrect. Main points: quicker startup, lower memory and CPU consumption, improved gaming in newer titles, smoother interface that becomes familiar quickly, faster copying, and better performance overall.
