I'll examine handbrake. VLC reduced the quality of the original FLV file. Also, your previous reply didn't make much sense—I assume I understand my hardware, but not my software.

VLC uses a specific codec and bitrate setting. Please share the details so I can assist you accurately. Where would you like to upload your videos?

You just set everything to the default settings and uploaded it to YouTube.

You don't have to change your video format for YouTube. The platform usually handles conversions automatically. You can upload files like FLV, MP4, WMV, AVI, etc., and they will be converted without issues. Repeatedly converting your video will lower its quality. Let YouTube take care of it for you.

My editing tool can't handle FLV files, so I must convert the audio to a compatible format. That's why I'm changing the file type.

I'm checking the editing tools you're using and the origin of your video. Just a quick note—make sure the conversion maintains a high bitrate for both audio and video.

Unfortunately, I'm working with Movie Maker. I'm capturing footage via OBS (I'd use FRAPS instead if it wasn't breaking the files).

Never encountered Fraps altering videos, though OBS works too—just ensure the bitrate is sufficient. You might want to use dedicated editing tools like Vegas Movie Studio or Adobe Premiere Pro. There aren’t really free options that surpass Adobe Premiere Pro (though some open-source Linux projects are in progress). Both programs offer a 30-day trial for temporary use, and they handle many formats. By the way, would you mind sharing the video link once you’ve finished?

Google can assist in getting a free version of these programs. If that's the case, I suggest choosing Premiere Pro instead of Vega Movie Studio.
