Configuring a wireless connection for the virtual machine as a separate wireless interface.
Hello, I'm looking to configure my USB wireless interface for a PFSENSE VM running in VirtualBox. The usual method of bridging the adapter isn't working because PFSENSE treats it as a wired connection. I've tried adding it as a USB device, but it doesn't appear when assigning. I'm seeking alternatives to make it a wireless interface. Are there other VM options or software that could help achieve this? Thanks.
Assuming pfSense functions with the NIC, I’d switch to another hypervisor or treat it as a whole device or connect via USB. What are your goals here? For real network management purposes, I recommend running pfSense directly on hardware.
For the LAN interface, I plan to configure an AP using the wireless interface so users can connect to PFSSL via Wi-Fi and access the internet through it. I've confirmed the USB interface functions correctly with PFSSL, just like it did when bridged to the VM. The host is a Windows 10 machine.
Well in your pfsense screenshot above, it saw the wifi card. Can you show a screenshot of the error?
In this configuration, you link the LAN output from the Ethernet port to an AP, correct? Unfortunately, your old laptop's Ethernet interface isn't functioning properly now.
