I think AMD will eventually adopt LGA since it offers better pin support. The latest connector uses LGA1200, which holds 1200 pins. Installing that many pins at the bottom of a CPU would be challenging without LGA.
Other criticisms exist for AMD, but being PGA seems to rank highest among them
I only assembled a PC because AMD CPUs are available. I checked Intel fans and kept rejecting them all the time... AMD fans and chips are straightforward to install, actually running smoothly. The only minor annoyance is those four screws on the cooler—it's hard to tell if they're properly tightened. Still, it mostly works fine. In contrast, Intel seems overly complicated and fragile. On a side note: we need pictures.
I bent a few pins on my 1200 during the disassembly. Once straightened them, a few CPU resets were needed into the socket for a solid fit. To ensure proper alignment, I had to push the CPU while closing the gate so it could slide in fully. After figuring this out, it works every time I install it—though I did try to straighten the pins a bit more.
