I also tried another laptop, but it didn’t work either. My main laptop has a 60Hz IPS screen, and I usually keep mine off while using the monitor.

the laptop uses an ipc screen at 60hz, but i leave my own monitor on while using mine (my laptop is off), and it functioned perfectly for nine months.

It seems the issue might be with your monitor. Try using a friend's 144Hz display to see if it helps. You might also want to check the warranty options, as technology can sometimes fail unexpectedly. Nine months of normal use is unusual but not impossible.
