Hi there, I’m not sure where this question should go, but I really hope I can find some help. I’m wondering if my computer is experiencing a slowdown. I’ve listed my specifications below: CPU – Intel Core i5 9600K, cooler – Noctua NH-D15, GPU – NVIDIA RTX 2060, RAM – 8x2 GB at 3200 MHz, SSD – ADATA SU630 240GB (for operating system), another SSD – Lexar Professional NM700 M.2 2280 1TB (for games), a WD Blue HDD 1TB (name unknown), monitor – MSI OPTIX G24 144Hz (G-SYNC enabled).

During gaming, especially in COD Warzone, I see around 130-140 FPS, but sometimes there are noticeable lag spikes or stutters. My temperatures stay between 70-75°C across all cores, peaking at about 78°C during intense moments. I notice similar issues when playing RDR 2 for the first few minutes (it feels like a delay), then things stabilize. After that, it runs smoothly.

I also overclocked my CPU to 5GHz and it’s running at full utilization while gaming. My CPU usage is high during these sessions. I’m not sure if this is normal or a problem.

My internet connection in the UK is very poor (using TalkTalk). Besides that, what could be causing the lag? Could it be related to my overclocking, or maybe something else? Also, did I transfer the games from the old SSD to the new one correctly?

I’m a bit confused and exhausted trying to figure this out. Please let me know what might be wrong with my setup. Thank you!
Alex.

This processor shouldn't run at full capacity during games. Your 5600X with six cores is typically running between 30-40% in most titles, which suggests many background tasks are active. Examine your system utilization while using the desktop. If your CPU hits 100% while playing, it's likely a performance issue. It seems unlikely that a 5.0GHz OCed 9600K will cause significant bottlenecks for any gaming rig soon. Another concern: downloading pirated games carries a high risk of viruses and malware. That might be the root of your problem.

Yes, install Malwarebytes, scan for threats, though the six threads might slow things down. Which version are you using?

On the desktop with no activity, the usage stays between 2% and 15%. Regarding the viruses, they seem linked to broken games. I saved it from a trustworthy site, but even before that, my CPU was at 100% during Warzone.

Tried reducing the settings. At 1080p the CPU is the biggest limitation, and 6 threads isn’t sufficient anymore. What do you think @Stahlmann?

it's unclear if the CPU should be complaining during games at the moment. It's worth noting that balancing the load across cores is important, and with a high core frequency of 5.0 GHz, each core was operating near full capacity (90-100%) based on temperature readings. When I reduced the frequency to turbo mode, core temperatures dropped to 70-80% and occasionally reached 90%. There were no spikes except once, which could be due to viruses or potential RAM issues. It might also be related to how well your OC was installed.

Consider testing without OC or adjust voltage settings.

I'll try using the default speed settings to check the results. Undervolting doesn't seem effective at 5GHz. The highest voltage I've managed is 1.350. Going below that leads to issues with Inter Burn and can cause system failures if I reduce it further.
