This situation isn't about hyperthreading; your older 8400 kept running at full capacity during games, whereas the newer i5 10600K often drops to 80-90%. The real limitation here is something else—mostly in the graphics card or other components. You might need to push it further by overclocking more aggressively.

Consider an AMD option. For a budget of around 200 pounds, you might want to explore mid-range CPUs. Since your new one was from eBay at 135 pounds and retail prices sit between 180-190 pounds, look for alternatives in that same price range. The MOMO you mentioned is about 100 pounds, so check if there are compatible models there.

It won't make a difference either—just give it a shot, but I'm pretty sure the CPU is the issue. If I were you, I'd wait for the stock to stabilize and upgrade to a 5600X or 6800X before worrying about lag for a while.

Consider purchasing an AMD CPU at a similar cost, such as £200 or equivalent, and look for a compatible motherboard priced around £100. Let me know if you need more details!

i was really frustrated by the frequent stuttering, which really hurts my FPS in online games—the only ones I play. That’s why I upgraded my CPU, but for offline games 6/6 cores work fine. If you’re in a similar situation, I’d suggest the AMD 5600X, though I’d say 80% to 90% usage on AAA titles is too high. Personally, I’d go with the 5800X even though most recommend the 5600X.

Amd is currently out of stock. Should I opt for an i7 9700K or should I skip it? I’m not planning to upgrade frequently. I originally wanted the AMD 3600, but then I found a deal on eBay for a 9600K... probably a bit of a mistake.
