Your new PC is slowing down and you're not sure what's causing it...
Hi everyone, I recently assembled a new gaming PC and am experiencing freezes that I can't replicate. Here are the details: I have an MSI Pro X670-P with the latest non-beta BIOS, Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz CL30-36-36-76 (listed on MSI's compatible page), AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, MSI RTX 4080, Suprim BeQuiet Pure Power 12 M 850W PSU, WD Black 1TB SN850X, LEXAR 2TB NM 790 Win 11 Pro (all updates applied). Drivers are fully current, including chipset. The issue appears to be freezing only the screen display—no black screen or fan noise in the case or GPU. Fans return to idle speed. Occasionally I hear Windows sounds when launching Task Manager, but not consistently. I must press the reset button on the case, which then restarts everything normally. Most freezes occur while playing "The Finals," though I thought it was the game itself. Now I'm trying to back up my PC to a NAS. It froze again without any activity—gaming or otherwise. In Windows Error Protocols, I see errors for dwm.exe and dwmcore.dll, but after research it seems possible the problem is broader, possibly involving Explorer. I also ran every CPU, GPU, and RAM stress test I could find, but nothing changed. I switched the GPU power cable to reduce strain, hoping that fixed it, but it still freezes during backups. I have no idea what's causing it—I can't recreate the issue and feel stuck with limited options. The freezes happen randomly and unpredictably. Some days I can play without interruption, but others it's frustrating. Two days ago, after starting the PC and playing "The Finals," I got a freeze. I reset, restarted, and tried again—still freezing. Then I restarted the game. Everything works now, yet I'm still confused. Temperatures look normal from HWinfo. Please help! I’m ready to share any details you need, just want it to function properly. Thank you.
The situation depends on your current hardware and stability needs. After trying different configurations, you’ve managed to get the system running with the new BIOS and RAM, though performance remains inconsistent. Disabling Expo helped, but the memory test still takes a while. Since you’re experiencing freezes, it’s wise to keep using the latest non-Beta BIOS for now. Reverting back to older versions might prevent further issues, especially if stability becomes critical.
Freeze again immediately while stuck in the game menu of "The Finals" after playing it for three hours without issues. What should I do? I had HWinfo running during the crash: tehfinalks.CSV Is everything in German? I don’t know if that could help... I can’t just return everything and wait two months for a replacement. All this while spending close to 2500€ not getting it to work. I’ve attached a few files that might assist. I’m really lost right now... finalsfreeze.XML FPSMonitorCrashDump.dmp
Are you still using both the Samsung and Hynix? If so try placing the Samsung into slot A-1 and A-2 and then place the Hynix into B-1 and B-2 if you have 4 sticks. If you have 2 sticks place Samsung into A-2 and Hynix into B-2. That might work but no guarantee. I went through the same issue but with a X570 mobo and DDR4 RAM. Check your motherboards manual for correct RAM placement. Best way of function is to have matching RAM in a single kit. So maybe you can just use 1 stick of RAM for the time being and send the other RAM that is not compatible back. I don't like waiting for returns but sometimes when building a PC it is necessary.
I had already received some of my funds. It was accessed and utilized for two hours...
It seems like the cable is likely damaged. You mentioned replacing it with something less prone to bending, but if you need to bend it for installation, consider a larger case. If it continues to resist, press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B to test responsiveness.
I’ll share a photo soon showing the current state, but your message is funny because I already got a new case (Fractal Torrent Solid from a Meshify 2 Compact) and a fresh power cable. I also included an English hwinfo log with no crash. The PC has been running smoothly for a few hours. Just disabled USB energy saving in Windows now. Thefinals3.CSV
