I recently changed my AMD CPU from Ryzen 7 2700 to Ryzen 9 5900X. My new machine is lagging behind the old one in titles like Valorant and CSGO. Previously, I achieved 180-230 FPS on Valorant with the Ryzen 7, but now I'm seeing only 60-145 FPS on the Ryzen 9. I own four sticks of Corsair LPX 8 GB DDR4 3000Mhz RAM (32GB total) and a single AMD Radeon RX580 GPU on a GIGABYTE B450m DS3H v1 mATX board. My CPU cooler was upgraded from Wraith Spire to a Silverstone PF240 AIO in a Silverstone FARA H1M case. I haven’t used Ryzen Master, never overclocked, and XMP profiles aren’t enabled in BIOS. CPU-Z indicates my RAM is running at 1066.4Mhz. Could you suggest a better performance target for the Ryzen 9?

Update the BIOS, apply XMP settings, and turn on PBO. It seems you might be using the 5900X at base clock, but performance is actually poor.

The information is confirmed. The bios have been updated and the system now boots into Windows using a Ryzen 9 processor.

If you haven't changed BIOS settings, reset it to the standard defaults for the 5900x.

Turn on XMP to boost RAM speed to 3000Mhz. It's currently at 2133 due to Double Data Rate effects. The motherboard has a weak VRM and isn't cooling properly, which restricts performance in some cases and limits the 5900X model. The 240mm AIO is just enough for the 5900X but not ideal. For better results, consider a good air cooler (dual tower) or a 280mm/360mm cooler.

You're operating at default performance levels with a stable temperature of 38°C. Performance spikes to about 60°C during gaming sessions.

Review everything carefully before proceeding. If needed, try reinstalling the GPU drivers. I noticed a significant improvement in FPS—from an i7 7700K at default settings to 5900X at default settings, with the biggest jump being the minimum FPS. The auto OC is just a nice feature; using the curve optimizer with a -20 magnitude will give you a cooler CPU and more turbo potential once all issues are resolved. Ensure you have all the necessary motherboard chipset drivers installed.

I can't modify any PC components right now, but I'll turn on XMP settings in the BIOS. I'll also look for additional 120mm case fans to improve cooling if it helps.

Cooling influences your temperature, not your frame rate (unless your CPU is throttling due to reaching 95% or higher). Applying the curve optimizer in BIOS with a negative -20 setting will have a much bigger impact on your CPUs than a 120mm fan. It might lower temperatures by 5°C or more.
