Hello, I've been using a 11Mbps Wi-Fi connection for four years now. Recently, I switched to a 150Mbps Wi-Fi and connected my PC via LAN cable from the router. The device shows 100Mbps instead of the expected 1Gigabit. Both my PC (ASUS TUF FX504GD) and router (Huawei B312-926) have Gigabit ports, and I use 15m CAT5E cables. Based on Justin Ellis' information, enhanced Category 5 cables can reach up to 1000 Mbps. Could you help me resolve this issue? Thanks.

No, I don't have a 1gbit connection from your ISP.

150mbps does not equal gigabit.

The local connection speed doesn’t match the ISP rates. He said gigabit should work over a cable, not Wi-Fi. Do you have another cable option to test? I’ve used CAT6 wires without success with gigabit too.

Cat5e and higher support gigabit speeds when all eight wires (four pairs) are intact. Any damaged wire reduces performance to 100Mbit.

Test another port on the router and use a different cable. Consider getting a network switch for distant wired devices. Verify adapter configurations as a backup.

Speed & Duplex is already supporting 1Gbit full duplex. The cable is in decent shape overall, though a few covers have come undone. My mom repaired them with electrical tape, but I’m not sure if it’s fully functional yet.

Speed is strong from the ISP, but it varies based on the router. The device I’m using supports up to 150Mbps for Wi-Fi.

I would purchase a fresh cable here just to confirm the gear is intact before assuming other factors are restricting performance.

I don’t really understand, I’m 12 years old. My mom wouldn’t buy me new things when I already have one on my house. It’s tough to tell her I need a Gigabit LAN cable, but I’ll try. What’s the name of the cable that supports that speed?
