Switching from a controller to a steering wheel feels similar to choosing between a mouse or keyboard for a first-person shooter. You definitely need a real steering wheel to get the most out of it. I meant "fully," but you can still play with a controller—it just doesn’t offer the same precision and feel. Certain turns demand an exact 'X' degree of rotation at high speeds, something an analog stick can’t match.

And I'm trying to figure out this controller issue—I gave up after playing AC3 for 15 minutes. I usually just use the mouse and keyboard without any trouble. Maybe I lost track of how to drive in arcade racing games; ETS2 was simple, but Ridge Racer could be tricky or even exhausting.

I typically type using the keyboard alone, but when a game allows driving with both mouse and keyboard (like Live For Speed), I switch to that method.

I used to enjoy playing with kb. After that, I switched to a controller and now use a wheel. I generally play pure arcade games with the controller, while setting up wheels for less arcade titles. It requires time and space, but it's well worth it. Using a keyboard is much worse for real racing games. A controller with analog sticks offers more precision than a digital keyboard, which only has two options—press or skip. It doesn't feel realistic. I might try harder difficulty once I switch to the controller or wheel.

I have no way to operate a steering wheel. Just the keyboard!

The optimal method involves using the steering wheel as the second input and the controller for control.
