Using LGA1150 with the latest CPU will give you the best DDR3 support, Z97 chipset, and K-series processor if you plan to overclock. For more flexibility, consider H81, H87, or B85 chips without a K-series. If you're looking for a compromise, third-gen Intel is a reasonable choice, though LGA1155 works well too—especially with Z77 boards for OC with K-series. Third-gen Intel is budget-friendly but still decent; I wouldn’t go below second-gen unless necessary.
