Anything beyond that needs CPU overclocking—any attempt will have uncertain results. The 10th Gen Intel chips appear to manage higher DDR4 speeds more effectively (for example, 4000MHz+). Generally, 7th, 8th, and 9th Gen Intel models run at around DDR4-3400 to DDR4-3800.

Thanks for your response! In summary, you ended up with a disappointing 9900k and would have noticed something was off earlier. It really should have raised a red flag when the salesperson at Canada Computers offered a discount on an openbox 9900k.
