It seems this setup uses Hynix or Micron memory ICs. For a 4000 MHz clock, the XMP settings should be 19-21-21-42 at 1.35V. It isn’t the ideal kit, but it’s not terrible either. Have you tried turning on XMP so the correct timings apply, yet adjusted the memory multiplier or ratio to DDR4-3400 or 3600?
He should be able to achieve 4K on a 9900K with proper adjustments, while my 8086K handles it effortlessly.
Use solid boards and good kits with every 8th generation+ CPU. You should be able to run DDR4-4000. The original poster made a few mistakes: they used two different kits (two sets of 2x8), which means you’ll need manual adjustments if you’re not careful. Also, some poor-quality boards or RAM won’t work properly.
Referring to the schedule for kit 19-21-21-42 with Hynix/Micron DRAM ICs isn't ideal. It seems I missed that it was using four sticks across two kits. My stable experience is with DDR4-3600 on an i7-8086K, while you're managing a 32GB configuration of DDR4-3000 CL14 from your i7-6800K and X99 setup.
yea but then again, DDR4 came along way. New kits do much better especially f.e. the "F4-4000C15Q-32GVK" or "F4-4000C15Q-32GTZR" G.SKILL kits. Memory Chips got alot better, PCB revisions got much better and i doubt that the IMC is holding anything back below DDR4-4400. Usually the board makes a much bigger difference with RAM OC than you would think. My Asus Maximus Formula f.e. is actually also bad for RAM OC, Overclocking boards are much better (with only 2dimm slots) for obvious reasons... but overall you can guess which kit would run on your board if you f.e. check forums or G.Skills QVL and not the QVL of your Motherboard, because G.Skill advertises their QVL with the actual speed of the ramkit, not only if its working or not at all. And sad but true, Gigabyte Boards are very rarely on any of these lists. Either they dont get tested as often, or they just do not pass the tests.
