precision boost overdrive offers a noticeable improvement. peanut butter oreos also works well. it's an AMD capability that lowers some default power and temperature caps, letting your CPU run hotter. For instance, with a 2600x and stock cooler, the stock Cinebench score is 2700, but with PBO enabled I see 3000—about a 10% boost. temperatures rise from 75 to 85 as well.
Sure, that's a distinct point. Games don't constantly use your CPU at maximum capacity. Unless you're playing on a dual-core system.
The 3600 includes the Wraith Stealth, whereas the Spire comes with the 2600X which performs slightly better. I’d keep the 3600 as it is with the standard cooler; don’t bother turning on PBO. You might be fortunate to find a chip that handles overclocking exceptionally well, especially if you’re okay with the stock cooler. However, odds are low. Run some stress tests at stock speed—if temperatures stay around 70-75°C and you’re willing for a bit more noise, try PBO to see how it performs.
It operates without overheating. The Stealth is built for regular use. The Prism lets you experiment with the CPU. Keep it in auto mode and avoid exceeding its voltage or clock limits. For more play, consider the Dark Rock Slim.
Checking the CPU side, 2600 looks great. 3600 offers strong single-core performance for gaming. A 3200MHz option is perfect—this is the most affordable choice right now.
I can always keep the CPU fan at full speed if needed, as long as it doesn’t get too noisy. My 212 EVO on this i7 isn’t particularly loud even at 100%, but I’m thinking about a stock cooler which would be much more noticeable. I’m planning to upgrade to the Chromax DH15 eventually, either way or through that mutagen thing. That’s another reason I wanted it—its lower NM architecture and all the extra features will really boost performance in games. Some titles I play hit the 8 threads on my i7, leading to occasional stutters, which are quite bothersome. World War Z is one of those examples, running at 90-100% with just the game and Discord active.
