500m is beyond the range for Ethernet—most systems function up to about 180m, and even then it was limited. Is there a direct line of sight between the two homes? (For long-range wireless, you need more than just a straight path; it requires a curved area known as the Fresnel zone: https://www.proxim.com/products/knowledg...rance-zone). If clear visibility exists, consider PtP wireless devices priced between $100 and $200—Ubiquiti Airmax is a good option to explore.

It seems like you're expressing concern about the expense. Would you like to discuss possible alternatives or solutions?

I'm considering a wireless setup, as suggested by @Tomthehitman, @Moonzy, @Kilrah, and @brwainer
