Software piracy isn't the same as theft. Taking something means removing it permanently. "Pirated" programs are simply copied, not taken.

The concept of intellectual property often seems contradictory in legal systems. I can't take "intellectual property" from you. The flowchart illustrates the situation: do you still possess it? Yes / No / No one has stolen it; someone has taken it from you. Copying a CD would mean others lose access, which isn’t theft but a different issue. If they copied it, you wouldn’t even realize it.
