I’m feeling torn right now. I just secured a solid deal on a 10850k. I’m drawn to the 5900x but it feels like a huge investment. Paying under 400 for mine makes me question the value of Intel these days. I play games and do some light video editing for YouTube and Instagram, which is fine. My satisfaction with the 10850k is decent, but it seems to drop significantly compared to the 5900x. The 5800x looks like a reasonable choice at this price, while the 5600x also seems worth considering. The 5900x sounds like the best overall option. If it were around $400–450, it would be a clear choice. I often see the 3900x for about $350 at my local shop, but even that feels like a jump from the 3900x to the 5900x. It’s making me rethink my decision. Intel really is starting to feel outdated.
I mean a bit. It’s not set for the future. I’m thinking about downgrading my cooler and spending that money on the price gap between the 10850k and the 5900x. The 5900x isn’t a furnace, so I could manage a dark rock 4 or similar and send my Ek 360mm AIO back to Amazon.
It seems Intel has made some impressive changes lately. As someone who loves their processors, it's tough to accept these upgrades. I've upgraded from an i5 2300 to a 6700k, then to 8700k, and now to 10850k.
Focus on future readiness with PCIe 4.0 and 12-core processors that are energy efficient and quiet. If the 5900X had been available under 450, I’d have been waiting in line last night, haha!

Indeed. This is where you have to be a fan of what works best for you. Each platform has its benefits. It's nice to look at charts, but in terms of real world use, how many people can feel most of those numbers? If you've got the time and resources to scrap the rig and rebuild and it's what you want do.... go for it. It's fun. I do it all the time. I'm replacing 3950Xes because that's what I feel like doing. But if you're doing it because you think it's going to matter.... it probably won't.
