Would you choose this path? I could balance out my expenses by going 5900x/B550, skipping the extra cooler and using the smaller one instead. It wouldn’t add any real cost except for a bit of appearance.

The next major AMD release won’t fit current systems. It will feature a new socket, DDR5 memory, and PCIe 5 support. Depending on how long it takes for DDR5 to arrive, we might see an updated model or a refresh. Zen 4 and Intel Alder Lake are expected to deliver significant performance gains. If you’re concerned about upgrading from the 10th gen to Zen 3, moving to Zen 4 would be even more advisable soon. (Or perhaps Intel’s 12th generation could surpass Zen 4—Intel will likely return eventually.) Zen 4 built on 5nm should offer 24–32 cores for mainstream use, delivering better performance per core and higher PCIe and memory bandwidth than today’s chips. At least keep an eye on upcoming details about replacement intel, which are scheduled for spring. A 14nm chip but the first new architecture since Skylake could challenge AMD again, especially if it matches the productivity of the 9th gen versus Ryzen 3000. If Intel hits 7nm on time, we might witness a competitive era similar to the 90s.
