I enjoyed the original Assassin's Creed when it launched and considered it a solid title, though I didn't explore the others much. Right now, all the newer entries are available at a reasonable price on Steam, which makes me curious about them. I'm leaning toward getting Assassin's Creed II to experience the story in sequence without missing anything, but I'd appreciate some advice on whether any of the more recent titles are worth adding to my collection.
I enjoy the AC3, Black Flag, and Rogue series the most. However, I think Black Flag stands out as the strongest in the lineup. The newer titles don’t capture that same vibe and I’m not interested in them.
The only thing I dislike about Assassin's Creed is its editor and their PC client along with customer support. They all seem really bad. The games are decent but you might run into some annoying glitches and poor AI, particularly in titles from the PS3 era.
It seems ACII and black flag are popular choices, but they’re quite outdated now. I’m mainly drawn to Origins and Odyssey because the era fascinates me and the visuals are impressive. Yet that’s mostly the only reason I care about them. After reviewing many AC games, the gameplay, storytelling, and acting feel shaky. I just want to travel back in time for a short break, avoiding hours of repetitive tasks, grinding levels, collecting loot, and watching poor cutscenes. Still, the historical settings are really appealing.
The gameplay is ok, it's just not stealthy as other ACs. Assassination is nerfed, there is no incentive to plan a stealth attack. You can pretty much storm forts head on even on the highest difficulty once you've mastered the parry (which is not challenging by itself). The last "true" AC was probably Unity, maybe Syndicate. Afterwards the focus shifted from assassination to pure combat. It all depends on what you liked about the first one. They're all good games, but they shine in different ways.
