My preferred 3D tool, Keyshot, now supports GPU rendering with ray tracing on Nvidia cards. I’m worried about memory because assets and materials can quickly reach 10GB or more when using the CPU. Currently VRAM pooling isn’t available, though it’s expected to be added soon. I also play games on a 34" 1440p screen and will use the GPU to power my Oculus Quest via link. I plan to upgrade to a 2070 SUPER in the near future, adding another 2070S with NVlink once VRAM pooling is supported, aiming for 16GB total. I know the B450 Tomahawk has only two PCIe 3.0 x16 slots plus one PCIe 2.0 x16, and the 2700X offers 16 GPU lanes. I’m having trouble finding solutions as SLI usage in games is declining. Could I run into issues with PCIe, power delivery, or performance bottlenecks when pairing a second card on my B450 Tomahawk with the 2700X?

PCIe design doesn't support SLI, since those connections in the lower port come from the chipset. However, it still allows dualcard setups.

Consider updating your motherboard to X470/X570 and look for a model with dual PCIe ports for graphics. Ensure both slots are available to support x8 lanes simultaneously.

Thanks for the input! Keyshot works well with several GPUs and doesn’t need Nvlink SLI, though I believe moving to a better motherboard would be wise.

You just need two 16x slots with 8x CPU lanes each. That’s the real problem.

Certainly, the B450 chipset restricts the CPU from dividing its PCIe lanes. The X470 model does offer this feature, and many X470 motherboards support dual GPUs and are suitable for SLi or CrossFire configurations. Therefore, X470 boards are perfect for a dual-GPU arrangement. Also keep in mind that the chipset's PCIe only covers Gen2 speed, which would significantly slow down GPU performance.

The software has been verified to not need SLI. While I'm unfamiliar with this specific product, it seems to function well with AMD and nVidia GPUs simultaneously.
