Hello, I'm working on turning on XMP for the ASRock Z490 Extreme 4 motherboard. When I set it to 3600Mhz, my PC stalls for about half a minute and then displays an error: "The system failed to boot several times before You may press F2 or DEL to enter SETUP to reconfigure your system Or UEFI will continue to boot after X seconds." My RAM is in dual channel mode (slots A2 and B2), I've tried swapping them, and I've adjusted the settings to 3600Mhz and 1.35V without fixing the issue. I'm unsure how to disable certain BIOS options since they're either Enabled or Auto, making it hard to know what's actually active. I also updated the BIOS to the latest version but it didn't help. The PSU is a Gigabyte P750GM, CPU is Intel Core i7-10700K, GPU is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, RAM is 3600Mhz on this motherboard.
Start by clearing the CMOS, then adjust the VCC/SAA voltage to 1.1-.2 and DRAM to 1.35. Begin with 3000 and increase gradually up to 3600 using XMP, testing for stability. You might also refresh the BIOS. ??
I mentioned in the original comment that I attempted to update the BIOS, for the CMOS I tried clearing it and resetting it to default settings, planning to adjust it slowly as you advised. I was hoping it would function properly since it wasn’t causing any overloads, just using the memory profile included with this RAM from the box.
Asrock boards are known for poor memory compatibility issues. I’d consider giving it back. It shows strange throttling when you go over 10600K, and overall performance isn’t great. To test fixes, turn on the XMP profile, set the frequency to 2933MHz, run Memtest86 for stability, then increase it to 3000 or 3200MHz and verify again.
Technically anything above 2933 for the 10700k is an overclock and isn't assured, but 3600 should be relatively straightforward on Intel's processors. You might increase the VCore and voltage to 1.1-0.2 and DRAM to 1.35, then progress to 3600 with XMP enabled.
First you might verify stability and confirm 3400 is stable. You can also test one stick at a time to ensure consistency. I'm not certain, but it seems possible the board uses a T-topology—I might be mistaken—but as @Mateyyy mentioned, memory compatibility could also be an issue.
Achieved stable performance at 3500Mhz using 1.35V DRAM and 1.1V VCCIO; 3600 won’t work in any situation, which is unusual but I suppose it’s manageable
