The Xeon matches a Westmere µArch design, comparable to the i7-970 or 980, delivering performance similar to those in single-thread scenarios. Sandy Bridge provides roughly a 15% boost in single-thread speed and includes AVX, which is needed by some applications today. It functions in flex mode, with triple-channel memory offering higher bandwidth while the single 4GB channel remains slower. Dual-channel operation is also possible for each pair on most systems, and flex mode is supported alongside regular dual-channel configurations.

Thank you for your feedback. This machine will handle everyday web use and gaming, with occasional gameplay recordings. Are there any tasks that rely heavily on AVX and could affect overall performance?

Windows, web browsers, and many games support AVX when it's present.

You use a recording program that relies on AVX technology. Without it, the performance drops significantly. Certain games and anti-cheat tools also depend on AVX, so launching them might be impossible without it.

I understand your thought. It looks like the processor might be about 15% slower than the i7, though I’m not sure if it’ll be noticeable without direct comparisons. Regarding RAM, I don’t have much clarity on flex mode or how it works, but it seems downgrading to 12GB for Triple Channel probably isn’t worth it for your needs. You’re on the right track.

You're free to use all 16GB without concern. Keeping them in either flex mode (triple + single channel) or dual channel won’t cause any issues and will perform much better than running low on RAM.

OBS and GeForce Experience are available, but I’m leaning toward an AMD GPU since GE isn’t feasible. What’s the issue? No games are launching? I enjoy CSGO, DOTA 2, GTA 5, FORZA HORIZON 4, CRYSIS 2, BATTLEIFELD 5 and 1, MINECRAFT XENOVERSE 2, NFS HEAT, TOMB RAIDER, WITCHER 3.

OBS relies on x264 with AVX acceleration. AMD’s encoder isn’t particularly strong in quality, but you can test it to judge its suitability. I believe none of the games need AVX. The titles I know of include Ubisoft games, Journey, and Star Citizen.
