It's great that you're finding ways to improve your setup. I'm working on reusing an old external drive to increase your storage... probably. It really depends on how well the 5400 rpm performs.

The Z97 PC Mate isn't ideal for Crossfire because both cards would need to operate at PCIE-2.0x4 speeds. At 1440p resolution, a card running at PCIE-2.0x4 can still provide solid performance on the board: you could pair two cards using SLI or Crossfire with an MSI Z97S Krait SLI Edition board for roughly $30 more.

Thank you for the suggestion, but I've already bought the Z97 PC Mate. If I ever need a second graphics card, I'll likely have to upgrade the motherboard.
