Xeon CPU motherboard
Hello! In my previous message, I mentioned purchasing a GTX 1660 Super for my very old PC. The issue is with the CPU—I have an FX 4300. I considered upgrading but didn’t want to exceed 100-120 euros. Everyone suggested newer Ryzen models (like 3 3100 or 3300x). They’re affordable, but I also need to invest in RAM, a motherboard, and other components. I was thinking about getting an Xeon X5690 because I already have DDR3 RAM and the CPU is inexpensive. However, finding a compatible motherboard is challenging. Do you know any websites or stores that sell old motherboards? Also, could you clarify if server components differ from regular parts, such as RAM? And do you have any suggestions for newer parts? Thanks for reading!
I don’t suggest LGA1366 for today’s gaming needs. The clock speeds are modest, performance per cycle is average, and the boards are outdated and costly. Their low price comes from scarcity, not quality. Personally, I own a X5670 running at 4.2 GHz—it struggles with modern titles.
They continue to run smoothly at 1440p with a 1080 Ti, but newer games in updated titles often face issues at 1080p. Budget builds usually require an X58 motherboard and a capable one for a decent experience. High-end models tend to cost a lot, though you can find good deals around $100 USD. 16GB is ideal, but 8GB should suffice for most titles if you can't afford more. More powerful systems may need additional RAM, but they should still run the games.
It varies by game, but it's sufficient for basic use. You can always add another 8 GB later if required.
Hi there! Yes, you're welcome. I'm located in Germany, and there are some motherboards available for under 50 dollars. That's great news!
