I noticed the motherboard was inside a case when first seeing the problem, and I only removed it to investigate the temperature spikes reaching 115 °C. The heatsink had plastic around it, and I aimed the fan at it since that’s where the chipset fan intake is. These seem like ideal conditions. I’m planning to keep it until it fails completely. Newer chipsets tend to be hotter than older models, but as long as temperatures stay within specs, it’s acceptable. Still, you might want to try to lower the temperature slightly if possible.
I own a Gigabyte B550i that operates passively while my ASUS X570-F runs actively. The active setup tends to be placed directly beneath the GPU, which feels unusual since the fan design creates a compact heatsink. I’d expect a larger heatsink with better airflow from both the GPU and front intake fans to keep things cooler, though I’m not sure why many people opt for active cooling. On the other hand, ASUS seems to prioritize quiet operation, only reaching around 66°C under heavy load with their 4070 Ti using Folding@Home. I have two 140mm Noctua fans and a 120mm fan in the front intake.
