Hello, thank you for reaching out. After roughly two months of swapping out my motherboard after it suddenly stopped working, I moved from a Crosshair Hero VI x370 to an VIII x570. I wanted to fix the loud fan noise in my quiet room, since I only use monitor speakers and it bothers me a lot. Once I installed HWiNFO, I discovered the chipset was idling at around 70°C—about 100°C during games. Apparently, the fan barely turned on. That wasn’t true information! I expected a misaligned or missing thermal pad, but there was one. I checked its thickness with calipers and it measured 1.5 mm. My concern is whether swapping out the thermal pad will make a difference or if the board itself is faulty. The rest of the system still functions perfectly. Any other tips would be great!
It seems the readings don’t match expectations. The heat levels are unusually high, which is why I sent back the X570 / 3900x after a short time. The fan noise was really loud and made it hard to focus on my PC. For normal gaming, temperatures should stay between 40-70°C. How does your system’s airflow compare?
Classic NZXT H440 full tower enclosure with three front fans and airflow directed straight into the motherboard. I suspected my graphics card might be overheating by pushing hot air right into the chipset, but testing confirmed nothing changed. After removing the motherboard, I positioned the GPU on the final PCIe slot, away from the chipset, and still no improvement was observed.
Do you understand the CFM rating of your fans? You might need to upgrade them slightly for better performance. A useful test is to run the system without the side panel and observe any changes. Then place a small fan directly on the board and compare with the original setup, noting any differences. This can help determine if airflow through the case or incoming cool air is insufficient.
Your X570 Aorus Pro now runs quietly at around 3000rpm thanks to FanControl. The system stays under 65°C even with powerful boards like the 5900X and 7900XTX, especially when used in a closed environment. That’s a big improvement over the previous high noise levels.
I first attempted to take off the front panel, but nothing shifted. Now it's packed inside a cardboard box. When I return, I'll remove a Noctua fan from my case and install it over the chipset area to test its effect.
The chipset isn't very powerful. It gets warmer than the CPU when nothing is running. Motherboard - Any ideas to lower the chipset temperature? Super User
I noticed the cooling performance on your Gigabyte Aorus Xtreme is better than expected, especially since active cooling usually peaks higher. I haven’t seen it consistently reaching mid-60s Celsius under load before.
