You're weighing upgrading your CPU from 3600 to 5800X3D. It's a big decision! You have an RX 6900 XT and a 1440p 165Hz monitor, mostly for gaming and photo editing. Consider the performance boost for games and workloads before deciding.

It depends on your GPU and game needs. Running at 5900X, 5950X, or 5800X over 3D settings can boost performance, but only if your hardware supports it. Check your GPU’s capabilities and see if the extra resolution adds meaningful gains for your games.

I've read reports suggesting that past 1080p, the gap between the 5800X3D and 5900X becomes minimal, and now the 5900X is priced lower than the X3D by $50. For anyone considering higher resolutions in the future, you won't notice a difference until it's time to upgrade your CPU or motherboard.

Both 5900X and 5800X3D offer a solid boost, delivering around +25% more frames at 1080p and +40% at 1440p. At higher resolutions, the improvement will be smaller—perhaps +15 to 20%, though it can vary by game.

At 1440p the best approach is future-proofing with a 5900x resolution, as higher than 1080p strains the GPU. For gaming, stick with 5700x or 5800x if you're playing, which still works well. If you anticipate upgrading soon, apply a 1.4-1.45v boost on your 3600 for sustained performance across all cores.

Sure... But aim for 5900x. If you're on a tighter budget

Hey everyone! I was considering scaling up to 5900x, but it seems much more affordable than the 5800x3D version in my area.

I'd choose the 5800X3D over the 5900X in this scenario. For gaming, future-proofing with higher performance isn't necessarily the best approach. Adding more cores for gaming is a smarter move if your main goal is gaming. Right now, the 5800X3D remains the fastest gaming chip you can fit into your motherboard, making it the most secure option for the long term. While 1080p benchmarks matter, they become more important when you think about future GPUs.

I'm just taking my time to check the price once it's released, but I think it will be over 550 USD in my area.
