I’d likely wait for a newer system. 3600 works fine, but adding the 5800X3D would boost performance significantly. You might later wish you hadn’t chosen the older setup. Do you own a 500-series motherboard or an older one?

For extended use on AM4, consider the 5800X3D. It's a significant improvement over the 3600. I plan to make that change. The 3700x will definitely be upgraded too.

I’m choosing an AM4 CPU because I just purchased a B550 motherboard and plan to keep the current configuration temporarily.

Hey, imagine we're together on that project! After the CPU upgrade, I'm planning to keep things as they are for a while. Just got a new motherboard, so I'm not really in the mood to switch from AM4 right now.

For a B450 model older than this, you'll be missing out on PCIe 4.0, which could be crucial for storage and GPUs in the coming years.

I own a 3600 on 4K display. It's clear the upgrade isn't justified right now given the current cost. However, when AM5 arrives, I expect prices to fall. I checked the 5800X price history and saw it drop about $75 to $100 at BF last year. I'm wondering if this chip will follow a similar trend. Still, I'm unsure if it's worth upgrading with the latest benchmarks right now. I'm feeling a bit stuck 😅

It's tough to say exactly what's limiting you. Are you experiencing any specific issues or performance problems?

Kitguru evaluated the 12600k alongside a 3080, conducting tests at 1440p and comparing it to a 10th gen Intel processor, which is roughly 15-20% quicker in gaming than a third gen Ryzen. Certain titles showed up to a 20% boost at that resolution. The 6900xt performs significantly better in standard rasterization, suggesting an upgrade from the 3600 to the 5800X3D would likely bring clear improvements even at 1440p.

In this scenario, it's a solid improvement. If you're not focusing on gaming, the 5900X might be a better choice. For pure gaming, pick whatever offers good value. Remember, since you're mainly testing 3D caches, there could be some unique behaviors with the 5900X that others might miss.

It's feasible to lower the voltage on the 5800X3D. Although many believe it can't be overclocked, adjusting the voltage is still crucial. If raising the voltage isn't an option, reducing it might also be sensible.
